SD 640×480 Cards, social drafts
HQ 480×360 Reliable fallback for most videos

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers for the questions people ask most.

What thumbnail sizes can I download?

When available: Max (about 1280×720), SD (640×480), HQ (480×360), MQ (320×180), and Default (120×90). Max quality is missing on some older or low-res uploads — use HQ or SD instead.

Do I need to download the video to get the thumbnail?

No. This tool only fetches the public cover image from YouTube’s thumbnail CDN. It does not prepare an MP4 or MP3 file.

Why is Max quality unavailable?

YouTube does not publish a maxres thumbnail for every video. Shorts and older uploads often stop at HQ. The page marks unavailable sizes so you can pick the next best JPG.

Can I use Shorts or YouTube Music links?

Yes. Paste watch, youtu.be, /shorts/, or music.youtube.com links. We read the video id and load the matching thumbnails.

Thumbnail vs MP4 page — which should I use?

Use this page for the cover JPG only. Use the MP4 or MP3 tools when you need the actual video or audio file.

YouTube thumbnail downloader for cover images

This page is for people who need the video thumbnail JPG — blog cards, mockups, social drafts, or offline reference — without downloading the full video. Paste a public link, preview sizes, and save the largest available image.

It is not the same job as YouTube to MP4 or YouTube to MP3. Those tools prepare media files. Here the focus is instant cover-image download from public videos you have permission to use.
